My most recent body of work focuses on the "myth" of the cowboy as an iconic American figure. The work more specifically is directed towards the Hollywood or Singing Cowboys such as Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. My exploration resulted in the "Box of This But Not That" project; a complete one-year's supply of cowboy art, an authentic rustic frame, and an elaborately embellished "limited edition" display/storage box. This boxed set allows the viewer to interact with both the art and the myth on their own terms. Each of the twelve prints in the series fit within the rustic, cattle branded frame, presenting an opportunity of escapism and interaction. The work allows the viewer to escape and dream within the individual images, playing into the notion of escapism and myth; while the box allows the viewer to open, enter and explore, providing a sense of discovery and adventure. Through nostalgic imagery and color pallet I have attempted to provide one with the thrill of youthful excitement, while at the same time providing some sense of truth to, but not destroying, the heroic myth of this American icon...the cowboy.
